ACCOMPLISHMENTS
HEDC has successfully proven itself as a critical component to the future development of Kansas City’s Latino community – in large part because of its ability to develop programs and projects that directly address a community need, have measurable outcomes, and are aligned with the organization’s mission. During its ten years of existence HEDC has achieved many accomplishments:
-
The Business Development Program has provided technical assistance to over 425 entrepreneurs. This assistance has facilitated the establishment of many Latino businesses and the creation of employment opportunities for the community.
-
HEDC has established and provided a series of workshops and one-on-one consultations for the Latino entrepreneurial community dealing with business development issues.
-
HEDC, in partnership with DST, successfully completed the development of the Westside Business Park, which retained 1,000 jobs and created 400+ new jobs for the Westside neighborhood and the urban core of Kansas City, Missouri.
-
The Real Estate Program has assisted in zoning adjustments for businesses metro-wide, detraction of undesired commercial uses, attraction of investment into brick-and-mortar projects, and other positive changes in the community.
-
HEDC established a $1.8 million fund that serves as a unique economic development tool providing both social and economic benefit for the Latino community and urban core of Kansas City.
